The evening began with a VIP red carpet, followed by a reception with a live DJ and award ceremony. This year’s distinguished honourees included director Nettie Wild, actresses Tantoo Cardinal and Pascale Bussières, screenwriter Susan Coyne, and emerging directors Stella Meghie and Jeanne Leblanc. The 2018 ceremony marked the first time Birks granted the honourees a cash reward for their contributions to Canada’s film industry, elevating their long-standing commitment to reinforcing female notoriety and helping women advance their careers.
