The 6th annual Angels Catwalk for SickKids, was an evening of VIP experiences, held onece again at the Steam Whistle Brewing Thursday, April 4th. Over the past five years, the Angels Catwalk for SickKids event has raised over 1.1 million dollars. This premier red-carpet event once again featured some of the hottest fashions to walk across the runway, tantalizing temptations from the city’s top restaurants and caterers, as well as divine cocktails. entertainment by Karl Wolf, alongside fashion designed by: Narces, Dianna DiNoble, Amanda Maria, Garema Official, Marka Designs, Lolë, Maska, Hilary MacMillan and Ross Mayer. The makeup was sponsored by MAC Cosmetics and Salon Daniel sponsoring the hair styling for the models. With the generosity of guests, sponsors, and the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Ashley’s Angels were able to help fund research, education and innovation targeted at enhancing both the quality and quantity of life years restored by transplantation. For the second year are raising funds for the Highschool Outreach program; a University of Toronto Transplant Institute (TTI) initiative, to increase awareness about the life-saving contributions of organ donation in the province of Ontario for students in the Toronto District and the Toronto Catholic District School Boards. In addition, this year Angels Catwalk also benefited Allergies after Solid Organ Transplantation research. Allergies develop in up to 30% of the children after liver, heart or intestine transplantation. This frequency is few folds higher than the normal Canadian population and is a major cause for disrupted day-to-day life for transplant recipients. Sickkids is at the forefront of studying this poorly understood phenomena. Through collaboration with the transplant programs at SickKids and across the country, experts in immunology and allergy are investigating the reasons for this high-frequency of severe allergies, the immunological defects leading to it and ways to prevent and treat allergies after solid organ transplantation. Ashley’s Angels Fund was established in 2009 following two-year-old Ashley Logan’s liver transplant at SickKids. Its mission is to raise funds to support research, education and innovation targeted at enhancing both the quantity and quality of years in these children’s lives, restored by transplantation at SickKids, and to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.
